After undergoing surgery, it may take some time before you are ready to get back behind the wheel. There are a number of factors to consider, such as:
- Can you bend the joints needed to safely drive a vehicle? Something as simple as a wrist splint can significantly slow reaction time.
- Will your medication cause drowsiness? It is important to be aware of the side effects that medications can cause.
Your physician can recommend a period of time to abstain from driving, but ultimately even after this time off the road, you should contact your local DMV to have your driving skills retested. Check with your local DMV employee who specializes in retesting.
