Conway local James Munshower was experiencing back pain that was limiting his daily activities. He visited Dr. Erin Watson, physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist at Coastal Orthopedics, who recommended Munshower try radiofrequency ablation.
Radiofrequency ablation uses radio waves to heat and disrupt pain signals from the nerves that are causing discomfort. It is used to treat several different conditions and was first documented in 1931; however, radiofrequency ablation has become a common treatment for back pain over the past 15 years.
“The procedure didn’t take long, just about 45 minutes,” says Munshower. “I’m now doing things I haven’t done in years; I’m able to work in my yard and wash the car.”
Munshower said that he feels the best he has in 10 years.
“Radiofrequency ablation is a great noninvasive option to relieve back pain quickly and safely,” says Dr. Watson of Coastal Orthopedics. “This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, and there is limited downtime before you are back to your normal activities.”
